FRIDAY

An exhibition opens at Pace Gallery featuring new works by artist Lucas Samaras entitled XYZ.

The 8th annual New York City Short Film Festival opens today with a truly great lineup.

Head to 92Y Tribeca for the 5th annual Banned Book Party, hosted by Mike Edison. The evening will feature readings from banned books as well as musical performances by Edison himself, Bob Bert, Dee Pop, and Mickey Finn.

The Guggenheim presents the last of a series of screenings in conjunction with the Rineke Dijkstra exhibition, featuring the shorts Blind Kind, Blanche-Neige Lucie, and Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore.

Cave Canem, City Lore, and Bowery Arts + Science team up to bring the POEMobile to the DUMBO Arts Festival. Poets Rachel Eliza Griffiths, Joanne McFarland, John Murillo, Camille Rankine, and Nicole Sealey will have their words projected onto a nearby building simultaneously as they read aloud.

Codex Dynamic, a video projection exhibition, comprises an international cast of artists and covers 33,000+ sq feet. Two artists’ collectives will create 3D video-mapped works covering the surface of the Manhattan Bridge.

SATURDAY

Lydia Davis, Colin Winnette, and Ken L. Walker will be reading at the Washington Square Issue #30 Launch Party.

Listen, Whitey!, a listening and viewing party for the multi-media publication that archives the momentous sounds, songs, and symbols from the West Coast Black Power Movement of the 1960s is hosted by Pat Thomas at the MoCADA.

Oskar Fischinger’s Space Light Art—A Film Environment, a re-creation of his multiple-screen film events, first shown in Germany in 1926, and recently restored by the Center for Visual Music in Los Angeles.

Eduardo C. Corral, Cris Beam, Michael Carrol, and Edmund White will all be reading at LITTER: A Queer Reading.
