This BOMBlive! podcast, recorded at the New School in winter 2001, features an interview with novelist Peter Carey by poet Robert Polito in which they discuss Ned Kelly, Australian history, and Carey’s book, True History of the Kelly Gang.
Two-time Booker Prize winner Peter Carey is the author of, most recently, Parrot and Olivier in America, His Illegal Self, Theft: A Love Story. His best known work, Oscar and Lucinda, was adapted into a feature film in 1997. Currently, he is the executive director of the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program at Hunter College.
Robert Polito’s most recent books are the poetry collection Hollywood & God and The Complete Film Writings of Manny Farber (2009). His other books include Doubles, A Reader’s Guide to James Merrill’s The Changing Light at Sandover, and Savage Art: A Biography of Jim Thompson, which received the National Book Critics Circle award in biography. He is the founder and Director of the New School Graduate Writing Program, and is completing a new book, Detours: Seven Noir Lives.
