Ward Shelley’s drawings chart the fleeting intersections of people and places, especially those catalyzing the key moments in our ever-morphing cultural history. In Downtown Body, a drawing specifically made for BOMB Magazine, Shelley traces the comings and goings of those who are still defining downtown culture, wherever “downtown” happens to be.
Shelley’s work is in a number of museum collections including the Museum of Modern Art and the Brooklyn Art Museum and was a 2005–06 Fellow of the American Academy in Rome. He has received NYFA and NEA fellowships in sculpture and new media categories, a Bessie Award for installation art, private foundation grants from the Jerome Foundation and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, as well as the Joan Mitchell Foundation Award for Painting and Sculpture. He is represented by Pierogi Gallery in Brooklyn, New York.
